Believe in Haiti is devoted to keeping Haitian families together through love, education, and service, while empowering individuals to rise above their current poverty level.

English Class Kick-off!

We've been counting down to when English classes could begin in St. Rock, and the moment has come!  The Hope Center now hosts 14 students (11 pictured) who expressed a desire to learn English, completed a screener, and were accepted into the English program. Through donations, Believe in Haiti was able to provide course books, Kindles, and some great shirts to welcome the students on their journey.  These supplies will be used over and over for years to come as many students make their way through a 6-month program. Many students hope to later teach English themselves, become an interpreter, or pursue various other jobs where English is necessary. This program not only teaches English to many in St. Rock, it also provides an employment opportunity for the instructor Jeff, who is also an interpreter for our dental team.   It's off to a great start and we can't wait to see what six months will do for these motivated Haitians!

Frederick's Home
Frederick is a student at the Adventist school in St. Rock.  Believe in Haiti believes in education and school attendance and how impactful it can be to one's life.  So when we found out Frederick hadn't been attending school, our on-ground man went to check on him.  Frederick lives deep in the village down a long road, and then down a little farther beyond the road.   Frederick, a 14-year old, cannot stand tall in his own home.  He cannot lay stretched out at night.  When the rain comes, the water floods the dirt below, prohibiting Frederick from resting.  The walls provide no protection.
No one deserves to live like this.
With a trip already planned in January, Believe in Haiti teamed up with another foundation and made plans to help Frederick.  We quickly gathered a team and supplies and got to work.  Frederick now has a very modest, but much more durable place he can stand in and call home.  Though small, Frederick is much better protected from the elements and doesn't need to worry about a dirt floor that will flood him out of his home.  We are so grateful for those that got their hands dirty and helped!  It's amazing what many hands and big hearts can do!

Trip News

We had a fabulous trip in January! It was great having some new visitors to Haiti!  Besides building a new home for Frederick, we were also able to make a lot of progress on the fence for the farmland and visit the museum.  Our volunteers were also able to sit down and participate in the new English classes, creating dialogue and having exchanges with the English students. We visited the orphanage and got to snuggle and interact with many little ones.   A few of us also met with a landowner, hoping to expand our land and form connections with more locals.  It was a busy trip and we loved every minute of it!
Our trips are filled with work, play, and a lot of love! Want to join us?

Haiti Spotlight
Kathenia

Kathenia’s big smile and bright eyes have been diminished by the sadness of the events in her life over the last few years. During the onslaught of Hurricane Matthew in 2016, Kathenia’s mother experienced complications while laboring to deliver her twin sisters and was rushed from the local health clinic to the hospital, where she died en route. Adding to the heartbreak was the loss of one of her twin sisters in childbirth. Kathenia’s father faced the harsh reality of raising two daughters without his wife. Fortunately, due to the resources provided by Believe in Haiti in creating resilient families, Kathenia’s infant sister was taken in by another family in the village and is currently enjoying a healthy and happy life. Kathenia has been able to focus on her schooling and friends of late, but still yearns for the tender care of a mother.

Thank you!

Because of your kindness...

We were able to purchase a moto to quickly and cost-effectively transport materials to and from St. Rock, transport food for our feeding program, and keep the program running smoothly!
