Agricultural Program
Farming has long been the economic backbone of St. Roch. However, the tools and skills necessary to provide a productive yield, in this sometimes drought stricken area, have not been passed on to younger generations. Believe in Haiti has partnered with a local agronomist who has trained community members on sustainable agricultural practices. The Believe in Haiti Farm has become a training ground, where a variety of vegetables, cash crops, and trees have been planted. To increase the success of the farm, an irrigation system has been built, with a large cistern to collect rainwater. In addition, parents of children in the school sponsorship program regularly volunteer to work on the farm and assist with weeding and planting, thus supporting our one community, one effort vision. We are excited to announce the farm has provided the first source of in-country income for the organization, while also providing supplemental food for the feeding program.
